"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering. A Gradual Return The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring". Music and Opportunity Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition. Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at tonight's service. "Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills. Generations Gathering Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said. Within the audience will be people from various age groups. That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks. Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them. The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."
